Diplacus puniceus Penelope

'Penelope' Monkey flower has flowers that start out like a mellow Diplacus puniceus and fade to cream like Diplacus longiflorus (pale magenta to pale yellow). The colors are very delicate pastels. 

This monkey flower is fine in fun sun in coastal California. Should be fine in sunny Los Angeles or San Francisco. In Bakersfield, Fresno or the desert it needs morning sun or even shade. Startling showy along a woodsie path or  next to patio. Works well in containers on that Malibu deck or high rise balcony.

'Penelope' Monkey flower looks nice with Penstemon 'Margarita BOP' or mixed in with Diplacus grandiflorus, Monardella subglabra, and Erigeron 'Cape Sebastian'.

Diplacus puniceus 'Penelope' tolerates deer.
Diplacus puniceus 'Penelope' is great for a bird garden and a butterfly garden.
