This desert mallow is a beautiful gray perennial that blends into the sagebrush scrub until summer when its colorful, reddish-orange, ball-of-fire flowers fire off. Flowering has occurred here from June through December; I guess we confused it. Sphaeralcea grossulariifolia is native from Lassen County through the drier parts of Washington to Utah. Use in a sunny rock garden or to add spice into a native garden that has a spot that's too hot and dry for anything else.
Foliage of Sphaeralcea grossulariifolia is stressdeciduous.
Flower of Sphaeralcea grossulariifolia has color orange.
