This Big Berry manzanita was selected from John's property in the Lake of the Woods/Frazier Park area. Elevation was about 5000 feet in full sun mixed with Arctostaphylos parryana, Pinus monophylla, and Juniper californica. This Arctostaphylos glauca selection of ours has done well here both in the ground and in containers. The form is low and tight for a Big Berry Manzanita. Foliage is pale green, a glaucous green, making it appear whitish-bluish, and as such this beautiful manzanita stands out in a garden. Use in a mountain or inland garden with Arctostaphylos parryana, some boulders and a few logs to make a minimal garden that is nearly fire proof and the deer wander through without causing a problem. Some of the manzanitas are tough, and this is one of them. A selection by Bert Wilson, at Las Pilitas nursery.
