The Douglas Hawthorn is a delightful small tree from western creek banks and north slopes. The fruit is relished by birds, the foliage admired by the people. Ours has had flame orange foliage in fall. It is a good border plant between you and a bad neighbor, as the stems have thorns for protection from herbivores.
