Deciduous tree, sun with moderate water, height up to 30 ft., found near water. Native in the southern Sierra Nevada mountains, and moist areas in the southern portion of the great valley and Sierra Nevada mountains, at elevations up to around 5,000 ft. This natural hybrid is very fast growing; also found in riparian areas in association with yellow pine forest habitat. This hybrid occurs where the ranges of F. velutina and F. latifolia meet.
