These monkey flowers are growing in part shade under a redbud. - grid24_24
A monkey flower from the mid elevations of the central and northern Sierra Nevada mountains. Diplacus (Mimulus) aurantiacus is a little nicer looking than the common coastal form, flowers are the same deep orange. Use with Arctostaphylos, Ceanothus, Penstemon, and Zauschneria. In the Sierra Nevada mtns it occurs up to about 5000 feet, commonly in the road cuts and tailings of decomposed granite and even straight granite. At lower elevations it is found on north slopes, and at higher elevations on south slopes. Syn: Mimulus aurantiacus var. aurantiacus Click here for more about Monkeys in California
