A slow-growing bush, also called Bush Chinquapin, that lives in the middle elevations of inner California mountains into southern Oregon. In the wild they grow in raw granitic gravel/sand/rock. Companion plants include Abies concolor, Arctostaphylos nevadensis, Pinus ponderosa, Pinus lambertiana, and Quercus kelloggii. Don't even try unless you live up in the pine forests.
