Arctostaphylos nummularia

Glossyleaf Manzanita.

This one is beautiful in its range under shore pine near the coast, but a real pain elsewhere. Glossyleaf Manzanita is not cold hardy or heat hardy. It looks like a small, tight form of A. uva-ursi. It grows in the pine barrens, under Pinus contorta and Arctostaphylos columbiana. Rainfall is near temperate rainforest conditions.
