A 6" perennial. It leaves are small and green reddish purple. Its flowers are lavender in a 1" cluster during the summer. It grows on serpentine in Santa Lucia Mts, Monterey to San Luis Obispo in part shade on the north slope. It needs moderate water or serpentine soil. It's beautiful when in the right situation, dead when not (treat Monardella macrantha the same). It belongs in a regular garden with regular water and good drainage. A rare plant.
