Foothill Penstemon is a tough cookie. This Penstemon grows in the inner coast ranges from the Bay Area down through San Diego. It will grow to about 18 inches tall and wide. This Penstemon is hardy to maybe -10F and will tolerant extremes in rainfall. It's native on the road here and has survived our rainfall years at 7 inches or 60 inches.
Use in a sunny native garden, use a rock as mulch or at least pull the mulch back a few inches and it should make it on it's own. Happily flowering for decades. Yeap, decades.
Used by native Penstemon bees, bumblebees, hummingbirds and evening an occasional butterfly.
