Coues' cassia flowers are very much like a Palo Verde's, shrub is like Encelia farinosa. This Cassia has done very well in the nursery. I keep expecting it to be difficult and picky. Doesn't seem to care, as long as I don't freeze it to bad. (syn. Cassia covesii, Senna polyantha) A small perennial sub-shrub with yellow flowers and gray foliage. Coues' Cassia is "Rare in dry, gravelly washes of the Colorado Desert".. "Named after Dr. Elliott Coues 1842-1899, noted ornithologist who was stationed by the U.S. government at Fort Whipple in 1864, author of Birds of the Colorado Valley", Edmund C. Jaeger, Desert Wildflowers. A rather small rock garden plant or wonderful addition to a cactus garden.

Senna covesii tolerates sand.
Senna covesii is great for a butterfly garden.
Foliage of Senna covesii has color gray and is evergreen.
Flower of Senna covesii has color yellow.
