syn.Berberis haematocarpa, Odostemon haematocarpus, .Red barberry grows in favorable spots in our Southern California Desert Mountains and across into Texas, into Albuquerque. In California Mahonia haematocarpa is usually restricted to washes and springs near the summits of the New York and other south eastern desert mountains. High wildlife value. Birds and butterflies will love you. Red barberry is not a fast plant, but if you have some patenience this along with Mahonia nevinii are excellent barrier plants between you and that nasty neighbor. You'll get birds and butterflies and no neighbor.
