This perennial grows right along the coast sometimes hanging over the bluffs. Typically native in a disturbed coastal sage scrub, soil sandy loam over clay hardpan, south slope, abundant, with Agrostis sp., HIrschfeldia incana, Atriplex lentiformis. fls. yellow, good mini-wildlife plant. . Essential component of a coastal garden. Native on the Escondido property. (Syn. Haplopappus menziesii var. vernonioides, Isocoma menziesii, I. veneta vernonioides) Very similar to Haplopappus (Hazardia) squarrosa but the flowers are 'permanently yellow' and in terminal cymes. Corolla throat expanded abruptly above tube (Jepson, 1926)(new syn: Isocoma menziesii var. vernonioides)
