Penstemon newberryi

Mountain Pride.

We are not selling this product. This page is for informational purposes only.
A delightful perennial from the 5000-9000 ft. in the Sierras. Mountain Pride grows in nearly straight granite rock and granitic scree. It's spotted in between Pinus ponderosa, Abies concolor, Castanopsis sempervirens and Quercus kelloggii. In the nursery garden it resents our summer heat, winter rain and winter cold. In its element it is under snow all winter, protected from everything but the gophers. Summer temperatures rarely get above 85 degrees and the ground stays moist until mid July or August. Good to try back east, does poorly in much of California's heavy soils. Good for true rock gardens.

Penstemon newberryi tolerates sand.

Foliage of Penstemon newberryi is stressdeciduous.
Flower of Penstemon newberryi has color pink.
