Occurs at 10,000' on east side of Sierra. Associated with Antennaria alpina (Keeler-Wolf) in poorly drained mountain bogs....Carex gymnoclada, Salix anglorum, Potentilla drummondii, Dodecatheon alpinum, Erigeron peregrinus ssp. callianthemus, and Arnica longifolia.(Barbour & Major)

Carex vernacula tolerates no drainage.

Communities for Carex vernacula:Alpine Fell-Fields, Lodgepole Forest and Mountain Meadow.
