This bentgrass, is a perennial, with creeping rhizomes, palea obsolete, hairs at base of lemma minute, inflorescence (Panicle) spikelike. A small, perennial grass, could be utilized as a spring lawn, goes somewhat dormant in summer, will probably tolerate wet summer conditions if desired. Grows in part shade, and full sun , flowers more in sunny conditions. Synonym: A. diegoensis, or Thingrass. It is found in open meadows, & woodland up to the subalpine zone, in many plant communities throughout California, to British Columbia and Montana. Leaves close to the ground but the flowering stems reach up to two feet. Very delicate, only showy in masses.
