Found on a restoration project in Nipomo growing on old stabilized dunes associated plants included Arctostaphylos rudis, Baccharis pilularis cons., Ceanothus impressus nipomoensis, Helianthemum scoparium, Heteromeles arbutifolia, Iris Douglasiana, Keckiella cordifolia, Lonicera hispidula, Mimulus aurantiacus, Quercus agrifolia, Prunus punctata, Rhamnus californica, Ribes indecorum, Ribes malvaceum, Ribes sang. Glutinosum, Ribes speciosum, Rosa californica, Salvia mellifera, Solanum douglasii, Solanum Xantii , Zauschneria californica.

Leptodactylon californicum var. tomentosum tolerates salt.
