Brickellbush is one of the best smelling California native plants. Plant this nondescript gray plant in an obscure back corner of your yard. Do not put in a highly visible area. Although Brickellbush is not ugly, it's not pretty either. In late summer the amazing fragrance from its small yellow flowers will drift across your yard. The fragrance can travel on the breeze hundreds of feet. Plant in full sun to part-shade. Water once per week in most areas for the first year then little or nothing after.

Brickellia californica tolerates sand and clay.

Foliage of Brickellia californica has color silver and is deciduous.
Flower of Brickellia californica has color white and has a fragrance.
