A small cute perennial that would work well in small perennial gardens. This one doesn't need nearly as much water as it grows in the coastal sage scrub, mixed with the shrubs. Xylococcus, Ceanothus, Arctostaphylos, Lonicera, Quercus, and Yucca are some of its friends'.

Clematis pauciflora tolerates sand, clay and seasonal flooding.
