Diet

The Chipping sparrow eats mainly insects and
spiders in the breading season. Adults will catch and feed them
to their young. During the non breading season the Chipping
sparrow eats mainly grass and forb seeds. The Chipping sparrow
gleans on or near the ground. Range of the Chipping Sparrow
A few Chipping sparrows spend winter in
California's central valley and in southern California. They
spend the winter in northern, southern coastal areas, and central
California except the central valley.

The Chipping sparrow likes open woodland or
forest areas with little under story. They like to use the dry
areas around wet meadows.

The Chipping sparrow moves south to Mexico in
winter. A few stay in the central valley and in southern
California.
