Description

A deciduous shrub to 8', normally to 6'. The flowers are orange-red and appear from Mar.-Jul.. It has formal looking dark green foliage. The black berries are edible but bitter. Native to the California coast. Often growing next to the water. It likes sun to part shade. It tolerates air pollution and is garden tolerant. Hummingbird flower. This plant grows right in the brackish water margins next to the coastal bays and at higher elevations. The limitation seems to be water (rainfall) even though it has been drought tolerant here surviving a 4" rainfall year on its own. A tough formal looking plant.Honeysuckles? Click here for more.
