Description
A small buckwheat of the coastal dunes and bluffs from Monterey into southern Oregon. Bluffs and dunes, in beach sand or fast draining clay. (Resembles E. grande rubescens.) The leaves are preferred by rabbits. They are very few plants in the nursery the rabbits nibble, they EAT this one. Plant into coastal gardens where you are having trouble with deer, sand and sea breezes. Give sun and sandy/rocky soil, little or no water after established(in range of species). In S, Ca. You can grow it but give a little extra winter/spring water., this perennial is used by many of the butterflies for nectar and larval food.
