Ceanothus thyrsiflorus repens is a prostrate Ceanothus with lots of attractive sky blue flowers. Low blue blossom is found north of Monterey county in the northern coastal plant communities. Ceanothus thyrsiflorus repens makes an excellent evergreen ground cover that tolerates full sun(near coast) to full shade, and grows well in sand or clay. This California lilac has shiny green foliage and is evergreen. Excels on compacted clay slopes that are north-facing or under the protection of overhanging trees. Seems to tolerate a great deal of water, loves to be washed off every week or two, but is still fairly drought tolerant. Click here for more about California Lilacs (Ceanothus).
