Description
Sorry I can't find any information about the person or the plant, but we have some in inventory so I have to fill in the blanks. This sage is maybe a native hybrid. It behaves as a non-native. A Salvia that needs regular water (seems to tolerate drip), needs good drainage and fertile soil(or maybe even fertilizer). We killed a whole bunch of them by treated Neilsen as a real sage. Kinda like sending a 5'2 Hollywood actress to Iraq with a pearl handled pistol, shorts, halter and orders to 'make peace'.. Clay (of tschudyecodesigns@gmail) sent I was traveling in arizona a couple months ago and stopped by the famous desert museum there. I saw a Salvia Carl Nielsen there. the placard next to the plant said its parentage was Salvia clevelandii and Salvia mojavense, a southwest desert sage. can't vouch for the accuracy of that taxonomy because I haven't looked into it further, but I was looking at the Carl Neilsen on the website and thought you'd like the tentative info. The plants can lose their form even if everything is perfect. Having said that, the flowers look like some azure blue crystalline figurine. So buy for the dreamy flowers, not the rather ugly plant. You might get lucky and have a nice looking plant also, but don't count on it, put it behind something else. It might work as a patio pot plant as it needs that kind of water and care. Mix in a large pot with Penstemon 'Margarita BOP' , Mimulus cardinalis, Diplacus bifidus or maybe one of the Zauschnerias.. In the ground this is one of the few Sages that tolerates an English garden. Imagine Stock, Delphiniums, Shasta Daisy, Campanula and CARL NEILSEN SAGE.
