Description
Ceanothus 'Remote Blue' is a hybrid that arose on the nursery grounds, and is believed to be a hybrid between Ceanothus oliganthus var. sorediatus and Ceanothus griseus. A mountain lilac
with dark glossy leaves that reminds one of the Mirror Plant (Coprosma
repens/ C. baueri). Well behaved, and growing to 2 meters (5-7 feet)
tall and 2 meters (6-8 feet) wide. It has been both drought tolerant and
tolerant of regular water. Useful where you need an evergreen hedge
that is attractive all year with a bonus of bouquets of fragrant blue flowers.
Bark is gray-green to white, and flowers are blue. This Ceanothus has
worked very well in those shale, clay soils of west Paso Robles and
Templeton where everything else is chlorotic while Remote Blue is dark
green and stunning. But then again, it commonly has the biggest Frankia I've ever seen. Click here for more about Mountain Lilacs.
