Abronia maritima

Sand verbena.

We currently do not grow this plant.

A flat nearly non-frost tolerant perennial that will \'disappear\' to the roots under stress. The flowers are pink and it grows in the sand along the immediate coast.. The soil must be fairly lose and free of organic debris. The plant is geared for salt spray and will not tolerate regular water nor extreme drought. This sand verbena grows in stabilized beach sand, of the interior dunes, 200-5000 ft.(60-1800 meters) from the surf. Its common associated plants are Prunus punctata (fasciculata var. punctata), Prunus ilicifolia, Arctostaphylos morroensis, Ceanothus ramulosus (cuneatus var. fascicularis)*, Erysimum insulare, Lupinus chamissonis, Salvia mellifera, and Ericameria ericoides.
