Comstock's Fritillary Butterfly, Speyeria callippe comstocki

Comstock's Fritillary lives on the native Voliets. The native violets are being replaced by weedy grasses. As climate change occurs this sitituation is spreading, reducing further the range of this beautiful butterfly and it's larval food source, Viola pedunculata and other native voilets.

Comstock's Fritillary lives between the Los Angeles basin, the channel islands and the Bay Area. Comstock's has largely dissappeared from the LA basin though as the weeds spread the fires, and fires spread the weeds.
