(Castilleja Jepsonii) This paintbrush grows in association with California buckwheat, Desert Buckwheat and great Basin Sage along the east side of the southern Sierras through the Transverse ranges and along the Seirra foothills to Butte County. Although Long Leaved paintbrush usually grows in the Oak woodland areas, in Kern County Twisselmann found it amoungst the Jeffery pine forest. We commonly will plant this paint brush with another plant like buckwheat or a poppy so don't freal whn you get a poppy, look before you email, there's a paintbrush under it.
