A perennial that grows right next to the ocean, on bluffs or the coastal sand spits. The consistent variable seems to be the sea Salt spray keeps the plants a low 1 inch tall. The flowers rise 2 inches tall. If the plant is grown out of the wind or in the interior it will grow to 2 feet tall. The foliage is fuzzy-fuzzy and greener than the other varieties and are much more finely serrated than the straight species. We had a mother plant in the nursery that did fine in clay, full sun, and very little water until the frost of 1990 froze it out. Companion plants for this variety are Erigeron glaucus, Eriogonum parvifolium, and Eriophyllum staechadifolium.
