Star lily is a bulb in the lily family. It has long shiny green basal leaves. Star lily has a single large showy flower spike with lots of star shaped flowers. Its' flowers are white with green centers. Star lily can tolerate full sun but seems to prefer some protection, growing best in the shade of chaparral plants. It can grow in clay soil but prefers decomposed granite. Star lily dies back in summer and reemerges the next spring. Deer don't bother it. The entire plant is poisonous. Its other common name is Death Camas.
