This species is at its best where there are cool summers. Greenleaf Manzanita is an evergreen shrub that is common in areas of heavy snow at our higher elevations. I would not try it in the interior heat of the valleys or where there is no winter chill. This may be like many higher elevation species and need a winter dormancy. We believe it would do well in the northeastern U.S. We have had no problems growing it, its appearance is pleasing, and we sell most of our stock to nurseries and people in the higher elevations of the mountain ranges in California.
