Laurel Sumac, Malosma is native in Los Angels and south to San Diego. This was a slope in North San Diego. - grid24_24
Laurel Sumac is a large evergreen shrub with shiny red-green foliage. It has clusters of small white flowers that are enjoyed by many insects in late spring. Yet the Laurel Sumac's foliage seems to be insect resistant. Laurel Sumac can reach a height of 18 feet making it an excellent choice for a privacy hedge. Unfortunately, it is not frost tolerant. Laurel Sumac grows along the southern coast ranges below 3000 foot. It stays green and lush looking all year round making it an excellent landscape plant for mild- climate gardens. Syn: Rhus laurina.
