Rhamnus californica 'Eve Case' is a lower form of Rhamnus californica that grows slightly slower, and has a more refined and formal look. I think this form came from the bluffs of Big Sur as the plants there look a lot like 'Eve Case'. Rhamnus californica 'Eve Case' is useful for smaller gardens and coastal gardens but is also unusually drought tolerant. 'Eve Case' coffeeberry has survived without irrigation and is still lovely after 27 years of living on 20 inches average yearly rainfall. 'Eve Case' is hardy to about -5 degrees F. or a little lower, and I know has tolerated -4 degrees F. fine in one of our plantings. We have one planted in the coldest spot (called the 'tundra' by our friends Albert and Annie Echeverria) on the nursery site. Rhamnus californica 'Eve Case' is an excellent evergreen ornamental shrub that can be used as a screen, background plant or focal point of a garden.
