Prunus lyonii

Prunus lyonii

Identification

Genus: Prunus Species: lyonii Variety: Cultivar:
Common name: Catalina Cherry.

Description

(Synonym Prunus integrifolia) An evergreen shrub to tree to 25 ft.. It has white flowers in spikes in April-May. Native to the Channel Islands. The plant likes full sun and garden water. It has black edible cherries that are all seed and skin. The seedlings die at 25 deg., the yearlings will die at 20 deg. , older plants are ok at 10 deg. We are having a great deal of trouble finding a true seed source for this species, if there is a Prunus ilicifolia within 3-5 miles the seedlings come up as hybrids. I have not seen the straight species sold by anyone for years. We are trying to find a clean source. If you have one let us know!
