Ponderosa Pine can be fast to 50+ feet in its range. In the nursery here it has grown to 5' in 7 years. We've also not watered it for 6 of those years. It made it through our hot spell of about 120+ for 5 days and rainfall for that year of 4 inches. It impressed me! A beautiful tree for large areas, grows from Mex. to B.C. to the Mid-West. Although it is not smog tolerant it is still one of the prettiest and darkiest green of the trees. Give it sun and one or two waterings with a lot of mulch on the ground around it and it should be easy. If you are in the desert give it extra water in the winter and early spring only. We've done just about everything there is to do to ours to date (including running over it with the tractor) and it still looks good. A very nice looking and behaving tree. We all like.
