Common name: Rattan's beardtongue.

Description

Native to northern coastal California. It has purple 1 1/2 inch flowers on 2 feet tall stalks, dark green leaves. Tolerates garden water as long as it has good drainage. It will tolerate full sun near the coast, part shade inland. Cold tolerant to 10 or less (although it shows). We've used it nicely in redwood gardens or Japanese style gardens.
