Bush mallow, Malacothamnus fascicularis is a 4-6' evergreen shrub with pink, 1" flowers, cover the gray-green plant. It likes full sun to part shade, little water after established. A hedge plant for patio or fence. Native to southern California. A butterfly plant. Bush mallow, Malacothamnus fascicularis, has done well here with little or no water. It has thousands of pink flowers for most of the summer. Celeste calls it the party flower. It has so much activity around it when it is in flower. In our climate the leaves are 1" across and grey in Malibu they are 3" across and green. Our plants are in tight clusters like bamboo, in Malibu they were 3' tall and looked like abutilon. I'm not sure this genera should not be grown on one site at one time and see if there are as many differences as the botanists list.Hummingbird plant. The bushtits also visit this plant. We had a version of this from Escondido that we had misidentified as Malacohamnus densiflorus. So the pictures on this page and one of the videos was originally posted on that page. That's why one of the videos talks about Malacothamnus densiflora. I wanted to keep my dad's original video so you could see the plant and hear his voice but it's actually M. fasciculatus.
