This is a very big annual. It grows to waist high with deep blue flowers. It is very useful for bank stabilization as it has a 3 foot root system. Typical western San Luis Obispo County, California, usually grows in heavy soil, annual, succulent stems and leaves, flowers showy, plant in masses for effect, lower margins of keel ciliate near claw, both margins glabrous near tip, fls. whorled, found in disturbed site, assoc. pls. Artemisia californica, Baccharis pilularis, Trifolium sp. , Anagallis arvensis, south slope, facing the Pacific Ocean, coastal sage scrub formerly, vegetation < 2 ft. hgt, no trees, February 22, 1997.
