Once you know what it is, you can identify it from the car, at 60 mph. It's used by wildlife as winter browse . For us it is very gray with flowers that stand out with so much white-gray brilliance I think you could find it in the dark. Grows in sandy, or clay alkaline soils, usually high in calcium.
