Common name: Red Alder.

Description

Deciduous tree fast to 10', moderate to 20', slow to 50'. It is native to N. Ca. to Alaska. It grows best near the coast and will tolerate salty brackish water. It needs water, sun to shade. It is nitrogen fixing (Pinyuh), good for wetland revegetation. Not super hardy. Hardy to only 15 deg. before stems froze. Dead at 0-5 degrees F, back in 1990.
