Description

Pacific Bleeding Heart (sometimes called Dutchman's Britches) is a 12-18 inch perennial with clusters delicate pink flowers in summer. A rock garden plant that grows in damp places. This Dicentra likes shade where it is hot and sun where the summers are cool. Cold tolerant to 5 deg. F. in Dec.1990, they hate hot summers and it died of heat stroke the next summer. It is a perfect woodland species with fringe cups, wild ginger, meadow rue and columbine (where the summers stay below 95F). It is much more delicate looking than the ones in the nurseries.
