Monardella linoides ssp. stricta, Flaxleaf Monardella, is a mounding perennial that grows in gravelly soil that is wet in winter and dry in summer. Flaxleaf monardella is a delicate-leaved, lemon scented mint, perennial grows best (and the flowers last longer) in an aspect with morning sun and afternoon shade. In the wild rocks, Jeffery Pines, Ceanothus, Amalanchier, etc. provide for this afternoon shade. Flowers are a light pink and attract lots of butterflies. This subspecies of Monardella linoides is an excellent plant for a butterfly or rock garden. The flowers of this Monardella contain nectar that many adult butterflies love.
