A hybrid Ceanothus that looks a great deal like a squat 'Concha'. Flowers are small but numerous. Often coving the entire plant. 'Wheller Canyon' stays in the 6-ft height range, but can sprawl to 8-10 feet wide. Fast, gets woody after 5-7 years to resemble a large blue-lavender umbrella, with multiple handles. Prune back lightly each fall to keep as neat bush. Very showy with rich deep blue flowers. Foliage has some fragrance after a spring shower. Plant on borders for a head height hedge. Mix with Ceanothus 'Concha' and 'Joyce Coulter' to have a moundy large scale groundcovver. Click here for more about Mountain Lilacs.
