Description

Mission Manzanita is an evergreen shrub that grows along the coast from Los Angeles to Baja and on Santa Catalina. It looks like a manzanita crossed with a coffeeberry. Or maybe a Madrone crossed with a olive tree. It likes full sun and regular water for first summer. It needs mulch on top of its roots. It tolerates most soils, but needs perfect drainage. It is native to rainfall areas of about 15-20 inches/year. In one spot in San Diego there was a Mission Manzanita that was a small tree maybe 20 foot tall. Most of the time it just an interesting bush, with interesting flowers that the hummingbirds like.
