Description
(Calamintha chandleri (Smith & Berg) A 1 to 2 feet high by 3 foot perennial with very fragrant foliage. Medium green crinkly foliage. Seems to be deer proof and somewhat drought tolerant. Native to the chaparral in Orange and San Diego Co. where it occurs with Quercus agrifolia, Arctostaphylos rainbowensis, Adenostoma fasc., Rhus laurina, Rhus ovata, Lonicera subspicata, Keckiella cordifolia and Dryopteris. For those of you in Northern California the sites look and feels like Satureja douglasiana sites. The plant looks like a shrubby Yerba Buena. Use as a container specimen or in a perennial garden. It has small white flowers and a wonderful minty fragrance.
