Description
Ribes indecorum, or White chaparral currant is a deciduous shrub that grows to six feet or so. White flowering cuurant makes showy sprays of white under our oaks in Jan.-Mar. . Native to the south coast ranges, its northern range stops in the area of the Santa Margarita Nursery.(Not Rancho, Santa Margarita). It is native in the nursery. It likes sun to part shade. Commonly growing in the shade of large oaks, along seasonal creeks and on north and east slopes. Its flowers are fragrant. This Ribes is drought tolerant to the extreme. It is flowering now in a flower bed in which Fallugia died of drought. White flowering currant will tolerate garden conditions and is a bird and Hummingbird plant.
