Wax currant or Squaw currant is a Ribes by many a name that makes a mounding shrub in the mountains. Drop a log next to it and you have your cabin landscaping. In the Sierras or Southern California mountains Squaw Currant makes an excellent choice for a groundcover in a bird garden. Currants are not tasty but are edible.
