Description

Hollyleaf Redberry is an evergreen shrub to 3-9' that is native to dry slopes in the coast ranges and Sierra Nevada foothills. Hollyleaf Redberry likes partshade of oaks and has low water requirements. The small red berries are colorful in the fall. A good screen in somebody's lifetime (it's slow). It looks like a small oak tree. We've had a number of customers that wanted the "oak tree with red berries". This one is also native on the nursery site on a narrow band with the Toyon where the soil will support it and it is up out of the cold sink. We are at its cold limit. I would guess it could handle a 0 with no snow cover but no less. We have a couple of foxes that love the berries .
