Description

(Syn. Pentaphylloides f., Dasiophora f., Potentilla fruticosa var. parvifolia, Potentilla floribunda, Fragaria fruticosa) Shrubby Cinquefoil grows along streams, in meadows and in openings in the forest. Native all over the top of the planet. Our forms in the west are a little different from the European flavors in the chromosome count. Our forms have 2n=14 chromosomes, and the Old world plants are 2n=28. Shrub or bush Cinquefoil is about a three woody perennial/shrub that goes kinda deciduous (loses a few leaves in winter) in much or California, and almost deciduous in places like Tahoe. Plant in a cool spot away from hot sun but with plenty of light. Not favored by rich soils and clay, prefers poor rocky gravel and no fertility.
