Poa fendleriana, Mutton Grass

Description

Mutton Grass is so called as it grows a bunch grass in many of the drier plant communities of the west and plains and is preferred by sheep. A fair sized bunch grass of soft texture, humm-m, tasty. I never know what to do with grasses like this,. Too small to make a statement, doesn't blend well with most native landscapes, but I'm not a grass nut. Grass nuts love to blend grasses, some poppies, some California fuchsia, Blue eyed grass, maybe yellow eyed grass, some Iris, put in a bench and break out the wine and cheese. Each to their own, this one is for you grass nuts. This one has a lot of other names. here are some;Eragrostis f., Panicularia, Atropis f., Puccinellia fendleriana, Poa eatoni, Poa montana, Poa alpina, Poa andina var. spicata, Poa longepedunculata, Poa longepedunculata, Poa longiligula, Paneion longilgulum, P. l. var wyomingensis, Poa scabriuscula, along with combinations of same.
